More about Toorak

Toorak is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 5 km south-east from Melbourne's Central Business District. Its local government area is the City of Stonnington. At the 2011 census, Toorak had a population of 12,871.

Illawarra House

Illawarra was commissioned by Charles Henry James, a beneficiary of the land boom of the 1880's. The house is of significance as a fine example of a boom-era mansion and serves as an early indicator of developing trends in Victorian architecture, namely the revival of the Queen Anne style. Early indicators of the Australian 'Federation style' can also be seen in this building. The ornate grandiosity of the house epitomises the spectacular excesses of the final years of the land boom, and in particular the cast iron work, especially under the verandas, is of exceptional quality. The tower is unique in Melbourne for a residence; its style more typically used on public buildings.

Illawarra was converted into flats in 1925-26 and then to boarding accommodation for St. Catherine's School in the late 1990s. In 1997, the building was fully restored.

Illawarra is currently owned by the National Trust and leased to St. Catherine's School.[2]

Brilliant Schools

Some of the best high schools are in the area, namely:

St Catherine's School

St Catherine's School is an independent and non-denominational Christian day and boarding school for girls, located in Toorak, an inner south-eastern suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Established in 1896 as Castlemaine Ladies' College, the school has a non-selective enrolment policy and currently caters for approximately 730 students from Pre-School to Year 12, including 80 boarders, on a 2.9 hectare campus.  Boarding students come to St Catherine's from country Victoria, interstate and overseas.[3]

Loreto Mandeville Hall

Loreto Mandeville Hall Toorak is a Roman Catholic day school for girls in Toorak, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is one of many Loreto schools distributed over the world, established by the sisters of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary or Loreto Sisters, founded some 400 years ago by Mary Ward. The school was established in 1924. It has a co-educational Early Learning Centre, a joint venture with St. Kevin's College at St Peter's Church, Toorak Road, Toorak and a junior school and a secondary school at Mandeville Crescent, Toorak.[4]

St Kevin's College
St Kevin's College, founded 1918, is a Catholic, all-boys primary and secondary school. The college is located in Toorak, Victoria, Australia. It has four campuses, three of which are in the suburb of Toorak; the fourth in Richmond. The school owned a campsite 'Silver Creek' in the town of Flowerdale which was completely destroyed by the Black Saturday bushfires. St. Kevin's was founded by the Christian Brothers. St Kevin's College is a member of the Associated Public Schools of Victoria.

Choosing to build is a big deal. Whether it’s your dream home, a bespoke development, or a major renovation or extension, there will be plenty of decisions to be made and more than a little time and energy (not to mention money!) to be spent.

In many ways, your builder will guide you through the construction process. They will be your eyes and ears on-site and help you identify and overcome any issues. They will also need to act on your behalf at certain times, liaising with your suppliers and managing all of your trades.

With all this in mind, being able to trust your builder is critical. You need to know that not only can they do the job, but that they understand your vision and have your best interests at heart. You need to feel confident that they respect you, and even when you are not around, they will look out for you and act as if you were.

But with so many builders out there, and most of them seemingly providing the same services, how do you find a good one?
